The real reason that FeatherLite Outdoors exists is to provide job opportunities to some special people in the village of Gallette Chambon Haiti. Our key supplier is NRH Kouti, which stands for Nathan, Ruth, and Henry Sewing. NRH Kouti operates out of the brand new BGM Business Center in Gallette Chambon. This facility was built as an incubator for local businesses. By supplying power, shelter and training, But God Ministries has been assisting local economic development since the beginning of their mission in Haiti. To learn more about their work, visit BGM's website. Here are some images of the team hard at work on the first set of Hammock Chairs.
The development of an ultralight version of our Deluxe Hammock Chair has begun product testing. With a weight of only 6.5 ounces, it is easily carried in along on a hike even for the ounce counter. For those that are very concerned about weight, a 4.5 ounce version is also being tested. The innovative suspension system uses a whoopie sling permanently attached to a tree strap. The whoopie sling attaches by capturing a button knot on the chair. This negates the need for any knots or carabiners. This is a major improvement over the marlin spike setup we used in previous models. As testing progresses, we will provide updates and information on availability.
We have been working very hard with But God Ministries, volunteers from the University of Alabama, and NRH Kouti to complete our first production order of Deluxe Hammock Chairs. The shipment recently arrived, and we are preparing to open the store. You will be able to order soon! We are very excited about what is happening and ready to get our first orders in.
